Larry Dudgeon, age 70, of Lexington passed away unexpectedly on Thursday June 6, 2019, at his home. Larry was born the seventh of 13 children on May 26, 1949, in Carnegie, to the late Raymond Emery and Pauline Florence (Dooley) Dudgeon. Larry was the loving husband of Jo Ann (Jody) Miller-Dudgeon.
Larry learned to work hard as a young boy and kept that work ethic throughout his life, teaching that same work ethic to his children when he wasn’t singing them the Oscar Meyer wiener song. Larry loved his family, those tied through bloodline or those accepted through love. His kindness, trust and love taught many a child “that’s just what daddies do”. He loved working with his hands, fishing and being outdoors with his grandchildren who called him “PaPa.”
He grew up in Cordell with his 12 siblings and graduated from Cordell High School with the class of 1967. After high school Larry enlisted into the U.S. Army and proudly served his country for three years before being honorably discharged. While in the service he was stationed in Germany with his twin brother Terry, during the Vietnam War Era. While in the service Larry married Charlotte Glasgow and together they raised three children, Jacob, Chris and Rebecca.
Larry lived in Moore for a short time before moving to Lindsay in 1974. Larry started working for York International on March 20, 1972. He retired in September 2000 after twenty-eight years and six months of dedicated service as a maintenance mechanic.
Larry married Jody on Aug 30, 1996. They lived in Noble for one year before moving to an acreage east of Lexington in 1997. In 1998, Larry went to work for the University of Oklahoma and worked as an electrical technician, mechanical technician, and elevator technician. He retired in 2010.
Larry could fix anything you put in front of him and would always tinker with just about anything. He had a small plot of land he farmed and he enjoyed the time on his tractor. If you thought of fishing, you thought of Larry and his kids. Larry dedicated his life to his faith and to his family.
His wife, his children and his grandchildren were the light of his life.
Larry is greatly loved and will always be remembered by all who knew him.
