Services for Melva Jean Dillard, of Sulphur, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at Sandy Baptist Church with Pastor Johnny Meely officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Sulphur.
Melva was born July 9, 1938 in Davis, to Lewis and Katherine (Cunningtubby) Hensley. She passed away peacefully at her home in Sulphur on Tuesday, June 11, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and two days.
Melva grew up in Davis and in California before moving to Sulphur in 1984 to be closer to her family. She began working as a cook at the Sulphur Veteran Center in December in 1984 and worked there until her retirement on July 31, 2000.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marilyn and Sandra and brother, Billy Joe.
She is survived by her longtime partner, Charles Franks, Sulphur; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Baxter, Oklahoma City, Gary Whitt, Sulphur, Jerry and Wanda Whitt, Brawley, CA, and David and Martha Whitt, Farmington, NM; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and, nephews.
